On November 6th, 2012, Republicans should have learned a valuable lesson. This country no longer belongs to White Men. With victories in the Senate and not to mention the Presidential election, Republicans should start to realize that they have to not only come to the table but to start actively addressing Latinos and Women. Mitt Romney and the Republican Party threw away this opportunity. Coming out against Roe vs. Wade, Rape comments, Self Deportation, opposing the Auto Bailout. These are not the ways to win elections.
Marijuana Legalization passed in 2 states, Marriage Equality passed in 4 states, Tea Party candidates ousted. Clearly this country is becoming more liberal. And now with the reelection of Barack Obama, a possible 2 supreme court judges could join the fray making this the first liberal Supreme Court in over 40 years.
Republicans must become more liberal in order to keep up with the times. Otherwise, they could go the way of the Whigs. I believe Republicans realize this and it’s only good news for us Liberals. Today, John Boehner even went as far as to say they are willing to come to the table. Only time will tell if he keeps his word. But in any case, I am very excited and interested in the future of this Great Country.
The other day President Obama landed in Arizona. He was greeted by Governor Jan Brewer, the two exchanged some harsh words and the picture above was taken.
The picture represents what is wrong with the Republican Party. There is a blatant lack of respect for all Democrats and the President is no exception. Another example of this the Infamous “You Lie!” during a 2009 address to Congress. President Obama was delivering a speech on his heathcare bill. While the President was in mid sentence Congressman Joe Wilson from South Carolina screamed out “You Lie!”
My question is when was the last time you can recall anybody acting this way to The President, any president. It is one thing to ask tough questions, it is another to act completely disrespectful. Republicans have no respect for anybody or anything except the ol’mighty dollar. Most of all they have no respect for anybody who isn’t in the top tax bracket with their policies of low taxes for the rich.
I have something in common with most Republicans. It’s not the love of big business or the unwavering belief in trickle down economics.
We both strongly dislike Ron Paul.
Personally I think Ron Paul is a phony. My main reason for this is that he is not a Republican. The man is clearly a Libertarian but somewhere along the line he realized that in order to win office he would have to join a party with a large install base. He chose the Republicans.
The Republicans look at Ron Paul an unelectable extremist. Newt Gingrich said:
“(Paul’s) views are totally outside the mainstream of virtually every decent American.”
Rick Santorum said of Paul:
“Think about having a guy running for president who is going to be on the left of Barack Obama on national security.”
The fact of the matter is Ron Paul a Republican candidate for president of the United States of America, the arguably the most powerful position in the entire world. As December 28th Ron Paul is within 1 to 3 points in most polls of Mitt Romney. (The Leader). Iowa chose wisely if not for America at least for continuity.
Newt Gingrich is on a roll. He currently leads all Republican candidates in recent polls and he ditched his cancer ridden wife. (The cancer thing is a bit of a low blow. But fuck him.) Good old Newt while speaking at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government said
“It is tragic what we do in the poorest neighborhoods, entrapping children in, first of all, in child laws, which are truly stupid,”
“Most of these schools ought to get rid of the unionized janitors, have one master janitor and pay local students to take care of the school. The kids would actually do work, they would have cash, they’d have pride in the schools, they’d begin the process of rising.”
So let’s try to figure this out. Newt wants to have children to do custodians work. I assume they would do this while attending school. (Little Jimmy better clean up his own puke.) Newt also wants to get rid of out child labor laws? I say send the little bastards into the coal mines.
But in all seriousness, He really wants to fire unionized custodians for children and lessen child labor laws. It really blows my mind that many of these republican candidates want to send us back to the 1800’s. I guess they think those were the good old days. (Free Labor)
On Sunday PBS will night air Prohibition, a three part documentary from director Ken Burns. This documentary will tell the story of the rise, rule and fall of the 18th Amendment and the lifestyles that encompassed it.
When I first heard about this I couldn’t help but think of the similarities between the prohibition of alcohol and the prohibition of marijuana. Before prohibition, alcohol was used way more than it is today. Hard to believe I know. It has been written that John Adams even used to have a drink with his breakfast. In my opinion, yesteryear’s alcohol is today’s pot. Back then people loved alcohol, today people love marijuana. The past three presidents have admitted to using the drug and celebrities for the most part have no problem saying they use it regularly.
Now I could go into all of the reasons that pot was made illegal or how it is just as harmful as alcohol if not less or even prove that the War on Drugs is nothing but a waste of money. But, the fact of the matter is that it is illegal. But the tide seems to be turning and it seems that some politicians are starting to come out with their views on pot.
If it’s one thing we learned from Prohibition and the 18th Amendment it’s that, Americans will do what they want and that if the government stops them from doing something they enjoy, they will change the Government.
I love when these tea party candidates open their mouths. Kim Simac (a Tea Party organizer) compared the public school system with the Nazi regime. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, including Kim, who is running for state senate in Wisconsin for the recall election of Jim Holperin. I’m a product of the public school system and I totally remember being packed on a bus, thrown in the locker room and was forced to be naked. Then, I would have to get dressed in shorts and a t-shirt and do athletic activities! Now that I think about it, it was nothing like Nazi Germany.
Governor of New Jersey Chris Christie went to the hospital today due to breathing problems. As it turns out it wasn’t because he is obese but because he has asthma. I find it interesting that he is so passionate about fiscal responsibility when he likes to take helicopter rides to his son’s baseball games.
Michele Bachmann has a problem with migraines and has a problem with pills for it….allegedly. Michele Bachmann isn’t that much different than many Americans. There are many people who have problems with stress, they use pills and other things to deal with it…. also they disagree with abortions in the case of incest and rape. Oh wait, that’s Michele.
Rudy Guliani is going to New Hampshire to explore if he should run for President. My question is, Will he be using his New York strategy? This is, everybody hates you until a horrible event happens and then you are beloved.
